Knowledge society
As the leading innovator on Croatian telecommunications market, Vipnet invests in the development of knowledge society as well.
We were the first ones to introduce the discussion on the development of telecommunications sector in 2002 and gathered numerous Croatian and European experts from telecommunications industry, as well as representatives of the world of politics and the economy at the symposium entitled "The Future of Communications". The Symposium presented crucial issues for the future economic development of Croatia: regulation of telecommunications, adjustment to EU standards and effects of new technologies on economic and social development.
In 2004 modern economy gurus and authors of the books "Funky Business" and "Karaoke Capitalism" dr. Jonas Ridderstråle i Kjell Nordström held a lecture entitled "How to Become Sexy", which presented new business trends to Croatian managers. Along with claiming we can only be successful if we are innovative and not copies of others, lecturers talked about a different approach to business operations, placing special emphasis on their thesis on sexy and fit companies. Being fit in the business world implies the ability of a company to adapt to a changing environment, while being sexy means being attractive and able to attract the attention of others. However, the most important thing is to be original. And this is precisely Vipnet’s business philosophy.
Central topic of "The Future of Communications" in 2006 was the domination of speed and multitasking - the requirement to simultaneously perform the largest possible number of tasks, as well as consequences it has not only on business life but also on private life of a modern person. Multitasking advocate Bertrand Piccard, psychiatrist and adventurer, whose non-stop flight around the world is described as the last major adventure of the 20th century, and dr. Ernst Pöppel, brain processes, time perception and multitasking researcher, who claimed that dealing with several tasks at the same time frequently means to perform with lower quality, discussed their standpoints. Nevertheless, both lecturers share the opinion that, in order to reach what is important to us in the speed dominated world, we have to step down from the fastest track and, like a balloonist, search for natural currents in order to find our own "natural speed".
On the occasion of Vipnet's 10th birthday on July 1st 2009, Irish rocker Bob Geldof shared his experiences on how humanity, nobility and ideals of a better world could be included in everyday living and business. The topic of the symposium was responsible business operations as a guiding light, while Bob Geldof, in his lecture entitled "Commitment to a Goal", spoke about his enthusiasm and examples from his humanitarian work. To be socially responsible is the only right way to behave in the modern world, which we together have to improve. Contribution of business world to this issue is particularly important - this is Bob Geldof's main message.
