What is roaming?
International Roaming is easy to use.
There are a few special things you should be aware of, such as how to access a foreign operator’s network. For detailed information on how to select a foreign network on your particular phone when in roaming, please consult your phone user manual. There are normally two "Network Selection" options to choose from: "Automatic" or "Manual".
If your Network Selection is set to "Automatic"
When you switch on your phone for the first time in a foreign country, it will search for a foreign operator’s GSM network and then automatically log you in.
If Vip has a roaming agreement with more than one GSM network in a given foreign country, your phone will automatically select the network with good signal coverage at that particular location.
If your Network Selection is set to "Manual"
When you switch on your phone for the first time in a foreign country for the first time, it will search for all available GSM networks and then display a list of these available networks.
- you select your preferred network from the list
- then your phone logs in to that preferred network
- if Vip does not have a roaming agreement with the network that you have tried to select, a message such as "No access" will appear on the display.
NOTE: Setting the Network Selection option on your phone to "Automatic" will save you some trouble each time you visit a foreign country.
Before you travel, it would be a good idea to contact the Customer Service to check for the latest update to our Roaming Agreements.
Making a call when in roaming
When you want to make a call, you follow the same procedure as you would if you were at home (in Croatia) for making and receiving calls. You should, of course, take into account the fact that you are calling from another country.
- To call a number in Croatia, dial the international country code for Croatia (+385) in front of the Croatian telephone number, and drop the "0" preceding the area code.
- Similarly, if you are dialing a 091 number from outside Croatia, you need to drop the "0" (i.e. +385 91 xxx xxxx).
- To place a phone call within the country you are in, you do not need to dial the international access code and country code - just remember to dial the local area code.
Receiving a call when in roaming
When someone calls your Vip number, the call will be routed straight through to you on your mobile phone, even though you are in a foreign country. People will call you by dialing exactly the same number that they always dial to call you:
- 091 xxx xxxx if they are calling you from within Croatia
- +385 91 xxx xxxx if they are calling you from outside Croatia
They do not need to know that you are abroad or which country you are in. You answer the call in exactly the same way as you would if you were at home in Croatia: by pressing the OK button.
NOTE: Check that Vip has a roaming agreement with the country that you are visiting. We will continue to enter into such agreements on an ongoing basis. For the latest information, please contact the Vip Centers or visit the nearest Vip Partner or Customer Service.
